▪ Russia to open tourist office in India
If industry insiders are to be believed, Russia soon open a tourist office in India by March 2008. With 2008 being the friendship year between India and Russia, opening of this tourist office can go a long way in enhancing tourism ties of these two countries. Presently, Russia has no tourist office anywhere in India.

▪ Cathay Pacific may double existing service to Delhi and Mumbai
With the successful conclusion of the recent air service talks between the Indian and Hong Kong governments, there can be a significant increase in passenger flights between the two places. The new deal could allow Cathay Pacific to more than double its existing services to Delhi and Mumbai. The agreement also allows for the launch of passenger services from Chennai and Bangalore to Hong Kong.

▪ Choice Hotels under major expansion mode
Choice Hotels India, along with various promoter companies, plan to invest over Rs.1000 crore to set up around 30 budget hotels across the country in the next three years. Choice Hotels India is all set to open a 120 room Clarion Hotel in Ludhiana which is an all suites hotel – the only all suites hotel in India. The hotel will start operation during the end of 2008 and is being built at a cost of over Rs 130 crore. Choice Hotels is currently targeting to add around 10 new properties every year for the next 3 years. Six new hotels will open their doors in the next 6 months.

▪ Ramachandran to head Kingfisher global sales
Siva Ramachandran has taken over VP global sales of Kingfisher Airlines Ltd. Ramachandran was heading sales in Qatar Airways till recently. With this appointment Kingfisher is looking at international aviation scenario with keen interest after its merger with Deccan.

▪ SpiceJet commences its second Boeing 737-900ER to its fleet
SpiceJet recently commenced its second Boeing 737-900ER aircraft, its latest offering of passenger aircrafts from Boeing. This aircraft will operate in Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bangalore sectors across India. SpiceJet will also induct three more such aircraft in its fleet by September 2008. ▪ MP Tourism wins 'Adventure friendly Tourism State' award
Ambika Soni, minister – tourism, government of India awarded Madhya Pradesh tourism as the ‘Most Adventure Tourism Friendly State’ award. The function was held during the annual Adventure Tour Operators Association of India function on December 17, 2007 at New Delhi.
